MEET THE EDITORIAL BOARD

Foto

Tara Tankink

Hello! My name is Tara, I am currently Public Note’s Co-Editor in Chief, which means that I am involved in decisions regarding the quality of every article sent in - and published - in every edition. I also guide a few authors towards publication every edition, which I enjoy greatly. I am finishing up my research master in Public Administration and Organizational Science at the University of Utrecht and hope to continue as a PhD candidate. My research interests can be summarized as: Behavioral Public Administration, Nudging and Boosting, Representative Bureaucracy, Gender, Emancipation and Equality.

While the network narrative has become dominant in contemporary public policy, the PhD trajectory about healthcare governance focuses on the meaning and practice of governing across traditional organizational boundaries for healthcare organizations and their management. Taken a practice-based approach, I’m interested in the actor-level work done over time in collaborative arrangements, and how traditional boundaries and care practices are reconfigured (or not). To challenge and stimulate young and upcoming scholars to share their work with a wider public, I’m pleased to work alongside fellow board members to further develop Public Note as a learning platform, and moreover, to strengthen ties between (PhD-)students in contributing to public debates.

As secretary of Public Note, every paper first passes me before landing at the reviewer. I enjoy seeing the wide variety of papers being send in and to learn something new from each author. Similarly, I believe Public Note can be a platform for students as well as academia who, either through publishing, reviewing or reading, learn new skills in academic publishing or gain new insights in the various topics of the published articles. I am happy and motivated to contribute to Public Note, to enhance its possibilities and learning potential.

Sheeling Neo

Hi, my name is Sheeling! I’m Public Note’s current head of publishing. This means I’m responsible for everything concerning the publishing of our editions, from formatting to distribution! In my academic career I am driven by my curiosity in the roles we all play in influencing each other’s beliefs, attitudes, and behaviors. Outside of academics I am focused on increasing advocacy and expanding visibility of young researchers and their great research works. I believe curious minds should be recognized and nurtured. For that, I am proud to be a part of the team that is making this happen.

In my own study experience, I have noticed the most insightful moments came from my own ideas being challenged by other students. Therefore I believe academics should not be limited to assignments and interaction should be encouraged. By giving individuals a platform, by and for students, Public Note is able to capture and spread new ideas. So far being part of Public Note and to cooperate with board members from a variety of disciplines has been an inspiring experience.

Emma Ropes

Hello everyone, my name is Emma and I am currently head of activities and head of publishing (together with Sheeling) at Public note. This means I am both involved in planning activities for PN, and the publishing of our editions. During my studies I realized how much I enjoy doing research. I am especially interested in different research methods and how these contribute to our understanding of a certain topic. Stimulating others to put their research skills into practice and get their research out there is very important to me, and exactly why I joined the board Public Note. Here I get the chance to provide a stage for young researchers and contribute to closing the gap between young researchers, academia and practitioners.

Agnes Termeer

Hello everyone! My name is Agnes and I am Public Note’s external affairs officer, and co-editor in chief. This means I keep in touch with our external organizations and I ensure the quality of the articles you can read in our editions! Providing a platform for young researchers is, in my opinion, extremely valuable work. I am very much looking forward to working with all of you and your papers and to pass on my enthusiasm for research to you! A little about myself: having previously completed a master's in International Relations, I am currently pursuing a master’s in International Security at VU University Amsterdam. After finishing the program this summer, I hope to further specialise in a position related to research in conflict studies, peace and security, civil wars and (counter)terrorism.

Nikolai Lehre

Hi! My name is Nikolai and I am from Berlin, Germany. I have a background in Economics and Public Governance and I currently work as a Student Research Assistant. My interest in research and academic writing drove me to Public Note, which is why I joined last February as Head of Reviewers.

 Jet Veenhoff

Hi everyone, my name is Jet and I am the chair of Public Note. As chair, I try to help our organization run smoothly and represent Public Note at external affairs. During my masters in Social Inequality I developed a passion for education, and increasing accessibility to scientific knowledge. I am excited to be able to contribute to such a cause through Public Note by increasing publications by students and creating space for semi-scientific articles. To me, this is a brilliant way of providing a platform for great science that would otherwise be lost. Outside of Public Note I am interested in concepts such as polarization, othering, competitive victimhood, and hierarchy of oppression.

Hey! My name is John and I am currently the treasurer of Public Note, which means that I am responsible for all of PN’s finances. I joined Public Note to gain further experience in academia, and to be able to play a small part in helping young writers get published. Besides PN, I am pursuing a Master’s in Political Economy at the University of Amsterdam. I am passionate about all things politics - geopolitics, democracy, and the role of government, in particular.
